Joe's Medicaid Story

As told by his sister, Rosemary

"Disability is not always present at birth. Accidents and illnesses can also change people’s lives through no fault of their own.
My brother Joe acquired chicken pox encephalitis at the age of 17. It permanently changed his life, transforming him from an active, intelligent, and athletic teenager into one who relies on others for a happy and stable life."

Why Medicaid Is Important to Joe:

"Without Medicaid, essential healthcare insurance would be a challenge to obtain and afford with Joe’s Social Security payments. The Medicaid services he receives for his Ray Graham Association Day services would be curtailed or eliminated. Joe thrives at his RGA Day Program, surrounded by his friends, community, and engaging in daily activities."

What Does His Sister Fear About Medicaid Cuts?

"As Joe’s sister and legal guardian, I supplement whatever he needs. But losing Medicaid would affect both of our finances. The Medicaid services provided by Ray Graham Association give Joe hope and stability.

His family can only support Joe to a certain point. We are both senior citizens. My fear is that any cuts to Medicaid would force Ray Graham Association to stop essential services, ultimately changing Joe’s quality of life.
Medical care support, community experiences, and interactions with others would be greatly decreased, and would create an immense financial burden."
