Emily's Medicaid Story

As told by her dad, Mike

"Our daughter Emily is 37 years old. She was born prematurely at 29 weeks and has been diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, ADHD, and mild mental retardation. Emily lives with five other young ladies in a community-based home owned and operated by Ray Graham Association.

She requires 24/7 support for her activities of daily living, hygiene, nutrition, and safety. Emily is a friendly, outgoing, and compassionate individual. However, these traits make her susceptible to manipulation by strangers.

Emily enjoys therapeutic horseback riding and Special Olympics track and field. She enjoys social activities with her peers at Ray Graham Association and spending time with her family."

Why Medicaid Is Important to Emily:

"All the activities that enrich Emily’s life —living in a home with her peers, socializing at her day program, Special Olympics, and community involvement would not be possible without the financial support from Medicaid."

What Does Her Dad Fear About Medicaid Cuts?

"If significant cuts to Medicaid are made, Emily’s life would be very empty. If Medicaid is cut and Ray Graham Association is forced to close its doors, we don’t know who will care for her after we, her parents, pass away."
