Brian Takes His Independence to the Next Level

Brian was already an active participant in the Gateway Special Recreation Association (SRA), but he had goals to take his fitness, social life, and independence to the next level. He enjoyed his weekly activities but made the decision to fully commit to achieving even more.

Commitment to Growth

That decision sparked a period of incredible growth. Brian increased his fitness schedule to three days a week, working hard to become a better basketball player and a dedicated athlete.

As his physical skills grew, his confidence did too. He became the first one on the dance floor at Gateway SRA social events. He also began using rideshares to get to and from social engagements on his own.

An "Epic" Social Life

Soon, his independence grew beyond the bounds of his programs. He started taking the train to attend concerts in different communities. He even took a big step in his journey by successfully navigating the crowds and excitement of Lollapalooza this summer.

Brian is building a social life that Gateway SRA Superintendent Ryan Massegill calls "truly epic." He continues to be an "amazing person with a heart of gold," inspiring the Gateway SRA community with his passion for life and incredible independence.
