At Work With Sheila

Employment provides people with disabilities a sense of dignity and purpose. Ray Graham Association partners with about 150 businesses and institutions throughout DuPage, Will, Cook, Grundy, and Kane counties to help people with disabilities find a job and find the right fit. A significant milestone for any new employee is 90 days on the job, and Sheila just achieved that goal.

Reaching 90 days of employment as a patio attendant at Portillo’s wasn’t as easy as Sheila anticipated. During the height of the pandemic, dining rooms were closed for nearly five months. With the encouragement of her Employment Specialist, Shelia eagerly waited to get back to serving her community safely and efficiently.

As folks began dining out again, Sheila returned to work. She was back up-to-speed on her former duties and quickly learned to follow Portillo’s new health procedures. Since Sheila found a job she loved, her Employment Specialist helped her keep it. Sheila is now so proficient and dependable, she can work independently without direct support.

Our team members discover each person’s strengths and interests so that their job not only provides a steady paycheck but also provides opportunities for growth and advancement. Job-seekers like Sheila can achieve their goals because of dedicated advocates like you. Thank you!
