Gateway Special Recreation Association
Gateway Special Recreation Association promotes the full participation of people with disabilities in meaningful activities that maximize their health, well-being, and quality of life. The core values of Gateway SRA are dedication, respect, support, and fun! Formed through an intergovernmental agreement, it is an extension of park districts throughout DuPage County and contracts with Ray Graham Association to provide recreation for people with disabilities and their families.
Gateway SRA also provides an eight-week summer day camp that promotes healthy lifestyles and therapeutic recreation activities for children and young adults ages, 5–22 years. Our inclusive day camps build social and team skills through arts and crafts, sports, service projects, swimming, and field trips. As part of the Ray Graham Association, our campers enjoy therapeutic horseback riding through the Hanson Center.
No matter a person’s strengths, hopes, and challenges, there is a year-round program that can help them live a happier and healthier life. There is sessions designed specifically for
- people with autism
- people who want to compete in the Special Olympics
- people interested in one-on-one interaction
- people looking for larger social clubs
Residents of Burr Ridge, Elmhurst, Oak Brook, Pleasant Dale, Westchester, York Center, Hinsdale, Willowbrook, and Countryside are encouraged to participate in our recreational services at a resident rate. We warmly welcome participants outside the geographic areas as space is available at a non-resident rate.
